There is no need to indroduce the International Offshore Sailing Race Aegean Regatta to the company of sailors and friends of this sport. The Ministry of Merchantile Marine, the Aegean and Island Policy organises the Aegean Regatta for the ninth consecutive year in the route of Evdilos - Karlovassi - Vathi - Lipsi.
It is a competition which is held in the Aegean Sea supported by yachting clubs of the Aegean. As every year, it is co-operated by the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy of the Ministry of Merchantile Marine, the Aegean and Island Policy, and the Hellenic Offshore Committee of the Hellenic Yachting Federation as well as the N.C. of Chios, the O.Y.C. of Rhodes, the N.C. of Samos, the O.R.C. of Lesvos, the N.C. of Karlovassi with the Aegean A.C. as the coordinating club.
Participants will receive a warm welcome on arriving at Ikaria, Samos and Lipsi, the islands - ports of call since this is the most proper behaviour towards tired crews. Although this year's route counts 107 nm, sailing through the Ikarion Sea and further more will, no wonder, add a few more miles and surprises as well...
For some people the athletic, social and cultural character of this event is taken for granted. The preparation though for a successful organisation of the Aegean Regatta demands persistence and care. Recognizing the attempt that is made every year, I would like to thank all those who have got involved in this endeavour; athletic and state authorities, local authorities of the islands along the route and their residents who have always been the best representatives of the Aegean tradition and hospitality.
Every Aegean Regatta route is different year after year, like its memories and emotions springing from the participation.
Set sail for another exciting adventure in the Archipelago.
Mr. Christos Kourousis
